BRIAN SMITH WINS SOUTH SENIORS OPEN AT POWFOOT

Kilmacolm's Brian Smith won the South of Scotland seniors' open tournament at Powfoot Golf Club on the Solway Firth coastline with a pair of 71s for a par-matching aggregate of 142, compared with the CSS figures of 73 and 71 for the two-day competiion.
Smith won by a shot from Stuart Pond (Worksop), who followed up a 78 with an excellent round of 65, and Stuart Black (Cathcart Castle) (73-70).
Keith Howie had a hole in one at the 15th (200yd) with a rescue club.
Brian Smith, who plays off three, also had the best net total of 136, five strokes ahead of Stuart Pond (1), Stuart Black (1) and Adrian Donkersley (Gerards Cross) (3).
