LUKE GODDARD THREE CLEAR IN PGA EUROPRO TOUR EVENT
LUKE Goddard is closing in on his first victory on the PGA EuroPro Tour and holds a three-shot lead ahead of the final day.
Hendon-based Goddard, who finished tied second last week at Formby Hall in Merseyside, maintained his good form on day two of the Lingfield Park Championship 2011 in Surrey .
He began Thursday’s play joint second after an opening day round of -3 (68) but performed even better today with a score of 66 (-5) to move on to eight-under for the tournament.
A strong finish, which included birdies at five of the last six holes, left him with a three-shot advantage over Chris Hanson (Woodsome Hall, Huddersfield ).
Hanson, who is set to return to the top of the Order of Merit, has a chance of becoming the first golfer since 2007 to win three events in the same season.
He has already triumphed at Bovey Castle in Devon and Galgorm Castle in Ballymena , Northern Ireland and he registered the lowest score on Thursday.
His effort of 65 (-6) saw him enjoy a flawless round and end with birdies at both the 17th and 18th holes.
Elsewhere, a host of golfers are on -2, while Darryn Lloyd, James Watts ( East Herts ) and Tom Sherreard (Chart Hills) are all on -1.
Anthony McDonald (Coombe Wood, Surrey) enjoyed the best day of his season so far as his score of 69 (-2), which included a run of six birdies in ten holes, saw him make the cut for the first time in 2011.
The top 50 players plus ties have qualified for the third day where a final round will determine who collects the £10,000 first prize.
All of the action is being filmed by Matchroom Sport, who will produce a two-hour highlights package and this will be broadcast on Sky Sports on Wednesday, August 24.
