STROKE-PLAY CHAMPION JAMIESON GETS FIRST BOYS' CAP

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE SCOTTISH GOLF UNION
Joshua Jamieson has been rewarded for his victory in last week’s Scottish Boys Stroke Play Championship with a place in the Scotland side for the forthcoming Boys’ Home Internationals in Wales (2 – 4 August).
The 17-year-old, who posted an impressive five-under par aggregate of 283 at Nairn Dunbar to take the boys’ title by three shots, is one of two St Andrews golfers in the team, with Ewan Scott also included having been undefeated in his five matches last year.
Four other members of the team who finished second behind Ireland twelve months ago –former Scottish Boys’ champion Grant Forrest, Liam Johnston, Jack McDonald and Daniel Hendry – retain their places, hoping to build on a positive performance when they defeated England for the first time in thirteen years.
Current leader of the SGU Boys’ Order of Merit Greig Marchbank makes the side, along with Junior Champion of Champions winner Craig Ross and rising Lothians star Anthony Blaney, fourth and fifth respectively in the rankings.
Blairgowrie’s Bradley Neil, runner-up in the English Boys Under-16s Championship earlier this month, earns a call up as does Mount Ellen’s Eamon Bradley, who performed well for Scotland in the recent European Boys Team Championship.
Staged by the R&A, the event takes place at Royal St David’s Golf Club in North Wales, with the young Scots facing Ireland, England and Wales in a round robin match play format over three days. Scotland’s last success in the event came back in 2006.
The Scotland Boys’ team is supported by Aberdeen Asset Management and TaylorMade-adidas Golf.
