BEATTIE RETAINS HANDS

ACROSS THE SEA TROPHY

Caledonian's Matthew Beattie followed in the footsteps of clubmate Alex Cruickshank and other well-known names from the golfing past, such as Harry Bannerman and Sandy Pirie, when he won the Hands Across the Sea Trophy boys' tournament at the Kings Links today.
Chris Lamb (Newmachar) set the clubhouse target of 68 early in the day and it stood unchallenged until Beattie, in the last group out, eagled the 15th and got the birdie 2 he needed at the short 18th to equal Beattie's score and retain the prestigious trophy by virtue of having the better inward half.
Beattie, pictured by David Grieve with the trophy, and Lamb finished eight shots clear of Chris Dunbar (Caledonian), third with a 76.
Ellon were the winners in both sections of the Stirton Trophy. Bon-Accord made a clean sweep of the 0-14 section.
