Clark Brechin wins Jaffrey Cup match-play title

Portlethen's Clark Brechin won the North-east District's match-play golf title at Turriff today - and then, in his winner's speech, dedicated the victory to his brother Greg who was killed in a recent car accident.
The Jaffrey Cup features the four players with the best two-round stroke-play totals in the previous day's Journal Cup tournament.
Brechin was the top seed with rounds of 70 and 67 for 137.
Anthony Bews (Murcar Links) had a pair of 69s for 138.
John Duff (Newmachar) qualified in third place with 71 and 69 for 140.
Ross Young (Nigg Bay) completed the quartet with 74 and 67 for 141.
In the semi-finals, Bechin beat Young by 3 and 2 while Duff beat Bews 2 and 1.
Duff looked odds-on the title winner when he was one up with two to play in the final, but he missed two putts from under 3ft to lose both the 17th and the 18th, giving Brechin a one-hole victory.

Semi-finals
Clark Brechin (Portlethen) bt Ross Young (Nigg Bay) 3 and 2
John Duff (Newmachar) bt Anthony Bews (Murcar Links) 2 and 1.

Final
Brechin bt Duff 1 hole.
