Hugh Hunter's Clackmannan County News

CALLUM AT GLENEAGLES THIS WEEK

Tulliallan’s Callum Macaulay had great start in the Dutch Open last week when he opened with a 4 under par 66. However his next three rounds were above par and he finished well down the field but still sixth best Scot with a four round aggregate of 282 (66,73,71,72).
It still earned him some Euros to keep him in the running for retaining his European Tour card for 2010.
Callum is closer to home this week when he competes in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles. Hopefully he will make at least the cut and not disappoint his local following who no doubt will be there to support him.
Dollar’s Scott Borrowman was also in action at the weekend in the North of Scotland open amateur stroke-play championship at Lossiemouth. Scott finished with a four round total of 294, leaving him in 19th equal position behind four-shot winner Kevin McAlpine
This weekend, Scott will be trying to retain his 2008 South-east District Open title at Dunbar. For the record, the 2007 event was won by Callum Macaulay. It would be quite an achievement for Clackmannanshire golfers to lift a trophy in a top class field from the home ground of Lothians golf two years in a row!

2009 COUNTY GOLF LEAGUES
The annual County leagues finished recently with Braehead taking the Senior League title and Tillicoultry taking the Junior League title.
In the senior league, all six Clubs compete, and the matches are keenly contested. Braehead and Alloa tied, and the title went to Braehead on match difference of 14 to Alloa’s 10. In their title win, Braehead won against Dollar, Tillicoultry and Tulliallan, halving with Alloa and losing to Alva.
Alloa also had similar results--- winning against Alva, Dollar and Tillicoultry, halving with Alloa and losing to Tulliallan.
The Alva team finished in third place.
In the Junior league, only four Clubs competed in 2009, the title going to Tillicoultry with 9 points from 6 matches ( 4 wins, 1 half and 1 loss). Runners up were the Alva Boys( who took the title in 2007 and 2008) with 7 points from their matches ( 3 wins, 1 half and 2 losses). Tillicoultry boys will go forward to the National Boys Team event to be held at Westerwood Golf Course near Cumbernauld in October. The Alloa Boys team finished in third place.

COUNTY AUTUMN MEETING
The County Golf Union managed to play the Autumn Meeting last weekend at Alloa Golf Club, although the course was wet from heavy rain the previous day. Best Scratch score was Darren Hulston (Dollar) with a 71. In division 1 Michael Robertson (Alva) took the best handicap prize with a net 68 and in Division 2 it was A Haggart (Alloa) with a net 67 who took the prize.
