Scottish senior men's amateur championship

BY GEORGE! RODAKS CONTINUES IN

GOOD FORM AT NEWMACHAR

Moffat's George Rodaks, 60-year-old winner of last week's North of Scotland Seniors Open title, carried on at Newmachar Golf Club today in the Scottish senior men's amateur championship where he left off at Nairn Dunbar.
In the first of two qualifying rounds to produce 32 qualifiers for the match-play stages, George matched the par of 72 over the Dave Thomas-designed Hawkshill course.
The tree-lined fairways can cause problems to visitors, but his driving was equal to the accuracy test.
Clydebank-born Iain Stewart, entered from Curragh Golf Club, Co Kildare in Ireland and another who played well at Nairn Dunbar, shot a 73 for joint second place overnight with Edinburgh's Ian Taylor (Royal Burgess).
On the 74 mark are Scottish Senior Golfing Society captain Gordon MacDonald (Callander), the man who got the domestic circuit for over-55s off the ground last year, and Robert Jack (Liberton).
Bob Stewart (Tulliallan), winner of the Scottish senior open amateur stroke play title at Elgin last year - when he beat Iain Stewart in a play-off, is back on the 76 mark.
After the first qualifying round there are 31 players at 81 or better.
