Thirteen-year-old St Machar Academy pupil Mark Rimmer of Caley claimed a notable victory over three-time Murray Cup winner Ian Stewart of Bon-Accord.
Mark was five up through 10 holes but a spirited fight back from Ian took them to extra holes. Mark held his nerve to win at the 21st with a par 3.
Elsewhere the top two qualifiers were both knocked out by clubmates. Caley veterans Graham Mackie and Jimmy Gall got the better of their young opponents, Mackie knocking out leading qualifier Robbie McCulloch 4 & 3 and Gall dispatching No 2 qualifier Ross Anderson by 2 & 1.
