Leader Molinari disqualified for second-round scorecard slip
First-round leader Francesco Molinari was disqualified from the Irish Open today for signing for a wrong score in his second round.
Just two hours after Northern Ireland's Michael Hoey threw himself out of the event on discovering an extra club in his bag – he was two-under-par at the time – the Italian was stunned after failing to spot an error on his card.
Molinari, who broke the course record at Baltray with his opening nine-under-par 63, double-bogeyed the par-4 13th but after completing a 73 that should have left him only two off the pace he did not see that the 6 had been put down for his score at the 12th instead.
