BOB STEWART LEADS SENIORS'

OPEN AT GLASGOW GAILES

Tulliallan's Bob Stewart, who defends his Scottish seniors championship at Panmure next week, could be running into form at just the right time.
Stewart led the huge field of 120 - there were 140 entries in all - for the first Scottish Seniors Golfing Society 36-hole open stroke-play event at Glasgow Gailes Golf Club, Ayrshire today.
Stewart, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency at Elgin last year, shot a round of 71, matching the par but three under the CSS on a windy day.
At the halfway stage he leads by one shot from former shinty star John Fraser (Royal Burgess) and Brian Bingham (Haggs Castle).
Gordon MacDonald, captain of the burgeoning senior men's society, is lying joint fifth on the 74 mark after birdieing the short sixth and getting an eagle 2 at the par-4 seventh hole.
