Bob Stewart wins Seniors'

Spring Open by three

at windy Glasgow Gailes


Scottish senior men's amateur champion Bob Stewart from Tulliallan ensured he will be a hot favourite to retain the title at Panmure, Carnoustie next week when he won the Scottish Senior Golfiing Society's 36-hole Spring Open by three shots at Glasgow Gailes Golf Club, Ayrshire today.
In very windy conditions, Bob, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, stretched his one-stroke overnight lead after an opening par round of 71 with a 73 in very windy conditions for a total of two-over-par 144. The CSS for the second round was 75 reduction only..
"I managed to play very steady golf both days," said Stewart who had three shots to spare from runner-up Gordon MacDonald (Callendar), a former Scottish and Spanish seniors champion, who is captain of the seniors' society.
Gordon scored 74 and 73.
Former shinty ace and a North-east District team player when he lived in Aberdeen, John Fraser (Royal Burgess) finished third with scores of 72 and 76 for 148.
