PGA EUROPRO TOUR FINAL Q SCHOOL

Steven Hume heads nine Scots who beat

the cut at Frilford Heath

Englishmen Paul Dwyer (Clitheroe) and Mark Wilkinson (West Mallin) share the lead at two under par 140, going into the final round of the PGA EuroPr0 Tour Final Qualifying School at Frilford Heath in Oxfordshire.
Wilkinson was the leader at four under 67 after his opening round on the Red course, but he found the Blue course a tougher proposition, going through both nines one over par to card a 73 to drop to two under.
Dwyer, a regular on both European and Challenge Tours in the last decade, started on the 10th on the Red course and was three under for his second round after 14 holes, taking him to five under after his opening effort of 69 on Wednesday – but three consecutive bogeys dropped him back to a 71 and a two-under-par 36-hole tally of 140.
Three players sit one stroke behind the leading duo – all three of them playing the red course today. Peter O’Keffee and Scotland's Steven Hume both posted level par rounds of 71 to follow 70s on the first day on the blue course, while Stuart Archibald (Blackmoor GC) undid his good work from his three under opening round, dropping two shots after posting 73.
Sandeep Grewal (Heswell) carded a fine 69 on the blue course to move from two over to level par for the tournament, where he is joined by Rob McGuirk (Princes) whose one under 70 on the blue course today cancelled out his one over opening round of 72 on the red course.
Biggest mover of the day was Duncan Stewart (Grantown on Spey), with a 68 on the blue course to move to one over par 143 and a share of ninth place after a four over 75 opening round – with an eagle 2 at the 365yd 10th the highlight for the Highlander.
On the same 143 mark is Tartan Tour campaigner Chris Kelly with scores of 70 and 73. Scott Herald (Mearns Castle Golf Academy is sharing 13th place of 144 after contrasting efforts of 68 and 76.
Young Edinburgh amateur Shaun McAllister dropped back with a 75 for 145 but he is still very well placed in a share of 21st place. A double bogey 6 at the 14th wiped out some of the benefit of biries at the fifth, 13th and 17th. Shaun also bogeyed the first, sixth, 10th, 11th and 18th.
The final round begins at 8am on Thursday morning, with 124 players, including nine Scots, making the cut at nine over after 36 holes.
Other Scots who will be playing a third and final round are Steve Mackie from Dunnikier Park after socres of 73 and 76 for 149. Former Scottish amateur champion John Gallagher (Swanston Golf) made it with a shot to spare with a pair of 75s for 150.
Christopher Campbell (Grantown on Spey) and Graeme Lornie from Aberdeen, playing out of the "Paul Lawrie Foundation," both beat the cut with nothing to spare. Campbell scored 78 and 73 for 151, Lornie 80 and then a splendid 71 for 151.
Scots who failed to qualify were Kenneth Glen (Royal Musselburgh) with 81 and 71 for 152; Scott Jamieson from Glasgow with 79 and 76 for 155, Ross Cameron (Saltire Energy) from Ellon with 75 and 80 for 155; Zack Saltman (Aegon) on 157 with 84 and 73 and West Linton amateur Graham Turner on 163 with rounds of 83 and 80.
Jamieson's failure must be a heart-break for the man who played four years on the American college circuit and then campaigned on the US mini-tour circuit. He seems to have lost the touch that made him such a great prospect when he was an amateur. Ironically, he did very well in last week's first stage of the PGA EuroPro Tour Qualifying School
