Thornton trio finish 14th in
European club championship

Scottish champions Thornton Golf Club from Fife finished 14th in a field of 24 for the European club team amateur golf championship which ended at Klassis Golf Club, Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday.
Thornton, under a best two from three scores to count daily format, totalled 464 from team members Scott Michie (236), David Imrie (240) and former Scottish boys' match-play championship finalist Michael Main (246).
French clubs finished first and second second. Saint-Nom la Breteche, with a team of international players, won with a total of 15-under-par 423.
Racing Club France, La Boulie, permitted under the rules to defend the title they won last year, came second with 426.
The highest placed British or Irish club were Warrenpoint from Co Down in sixth place on 434.
Hallowes, representing England, came eighth on 442.
Royal St David's from Wales finished 20th with 484.
