Thornton trail in Turkey as
French aces trump field

Scottish club champions Thornton - represented by Scott Michie, Michael Main and David Imrie - are lying 16th in a field of 24 teams going into the third and final round of the European club golf championship at Klassic Golf & Country Club, Istanbul in Turkey.
Imrie has shot rounds of 76 and 87, Main 92 and 75, Michie 83 and 80. Only the two best scores count every day.
The Fifers' running team total of 314 leaves them 38 shots behind the Saint Nom La Bretche team of French internationals, Jean Jacque Wolff, Kevin Turlan and Victor Dubuisson whose 36-hole tally of 276 has put them six shots ahead of Spain.
Not all of the competing countries play by the rules. What a coincidence that three of the best amateur golfers in France are all members of the same club!
Rather like Scotland's Eisenhower Trophy heroes Calum Macaulay, Gavin Dear and Wallace Booth all being members of Tulliallan when it comes to an international club competition.
A French club not only leads the field. There is a SECOND French club, not only in the field but in close third position. How can one country have two clubs representing them?
The only explanation can be that last year's winners are given a place in the following year's final - and it was probably a different French club that just happened to have three internationals on their membership roll that won it last year.
