TAYLOR WINS £1,088 TOP PRIZE
WITH SIX HICKORY CLUBS

Steven Taylor (Bothwell Castle) wielded his six hickory-shafted golf clubs better than anyone else in the World Hickory pro-am at Craigielaw today.
He shot a one-over-par 72 to win the first prize of £1,088 by a shot from former Walker Cup player Lindsay Mann (Carnoustie) who earned £870 for a 73.
Lindsay's brother Fraser (Musselburgh), Chris Kelly (Cawder) and Mark King (Kingsfield) shared third place on 75, for which they received £511 apiece.
Another past Walker Cup player in the field, Lloyd Saltman (Craigielaw), who defends the World Hickory Open title over 18 holes on Friday, led the BNP Paribas team of Mike Redferne (handicap 16), Roger Blundell (6) and Mike Verrier (8) to victory in the team event with a net score of nine-under-par 62.
David Thomson, who came all the way down to East Lothian from the Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle, also had a net 62 with his Whigham's Wine team of Nicholas Henderson (15), David Scott (18) and Hugh Teacher (17) but they lost out on a comparison of the inward halves.
