Hugh Hunter's Clackmannan Golf News

COUNTY GOLF TEAMS NEAR THE TOP
Four was the operative number for both Clackmannan county teams last week in national events. First up was the Braehead pairing of David Beaton and Murdy Gilmour in the Belhaven Captains and Secretaries Scottish final. They finished four shots behind winners Saline Golf Club and sharing fourth position with a score of 71.
Next in action were the Dollar trio of Scott Borrowman, Darren Hulston and Gary Chalmers over Windyhill Golf Course in the final of the Scottish Club Championship where they were competing against 15 other teams for the title and a trip to Turkey to challenge for the European title as well.
After round one, the Dollar team were four shots behind the leaders with a score of 148 (best two scores) and in fourth position. In the second round, they improved by one shot, to give an aggregate of 295 but finished three shots behind the winning team from Thornton, and (you guessed) fourth equal position.

TULLIALLAN AT THE RYDER CUP
A few from the many thousands who watched the opening and closing ceremonies of the recent Ryder Cup may have spotted Jim Christine in the platform party for the PGA of Great Britain. Jim played his early golf at Tulliallan, and represented the club in boys' matches against Alloa Golf club a good number of years ago.

MORE SENIOR GOLF
Tulliallan’s Bob Stewart is in action this week at the Senior Home Internationals at Tenby in south Wales, and local seniors compete in the second County Seniors Championship at Braehead.
