Fisher still in front after Harrington
charge falters on inward half

FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
Irishman Padraig Harrington endured mixed fortunes in his round three bid to catch overnight leader Ross Fisher at The European Open today.
The Open champion, who started the day 11 shots adrift of leader Ross Fisher after rounds of 72 and 70, stormed through the opening nine holes in 31, but returned in 38 to leave him eight shots behind the Englishman.
Initially, Harrington was in formidable form, starting with a birdie three at The London Golf Club and then taking an eagle at the 541 yard fifth with a stunning 30 foot putt. At five under par the Dubliner then converted a 20 foot chance for birdie at the next and when he two-putted the downwind 563 yard eighth, he was seven under and into a tie for fifth. His outward 31 could have been better, but a 15 foot putt on the ninth eluded him before he dropped a shot on the par four tenth and another at the 12th.
A further bogey at the par four 14th left him on four under par, but an eagle on the par five 15th gave him a share of 11th place with three to play. A bogey on the last, where he drove into water, brought his score back to five under par, but he is well within striking distance of the leaders.
"My scoring is getting better," said Harrington. "My game is probably the same every day and I have played very well all three days. I had a lot of opportunities all week and today I took some of them and missed some as well.
"My game is getting better all the time but I need to be out there on the golf course, scoring, get up and down and that is what I hope to do this week, four rounds next week and then The Open."
Spain’s Ignacio Garrido also enjoyed a good morning at The London Golf Club. He resumed at one under par, but with birdies on the third and sixth sandwiching an eagle on the fifth, he took just 32 shots to complete the opening nine.
Further birdies on the tenth and 12th moved him to seven under par with three holes to play, but a dropped shot at the 16th slowed his momentum. Successive pars on the 17th and 18th holes saw him card a fine 67 and claim a share of tenth place.
Maarten Lafeber of the Netherlands is back in the frame in a tie for 15th on four under par after carding a round of 70, while Australia’s Richard Green shares 30th on two under par.
Of the afternoon starters, India’s Jeev Milkha Singh made a strong start, picking up three successive birdies on the third, fourth and fifth, but a bogey on the sixth has brought him back to six under par.
