SCOTS FINISH FIFTH IN TURIN
AS IRELAND WIN EURO TITLE

Top seeds Scotland beat Spain 3-2 in the play-off for fifth place in the European men's amateur team golf championship at Royal Park Golf Club, Turin in Italy today.
Scotland's hopes of winning the title ended when they lost to France in the first round of the match-play.

Foursomes: K McNicoll (Carnoustie) & M Stewart (Troon Welbeck) lost to J F Sarasti & B Etchart 2 and 1 (0-1).
Singles: W Booth (Comrie) bt J Campillo 1 hole, C Macaulay (Tulliallan) bt M Cobo 1 hole, G Dear (Murrayshall) bt C Pigem 3 and 2, P O'Hara (Colville Park) 6 and 4 (3-1).

IRELAND BEAT ENGLAND IN FINAL

Seventh seeds Ireland stunned fourth seeds England in the final, beating them 4 1/2-2 1/2 after the morning foursomes were shared 1-1.

IRELAND 4 1/2, ENGLAND 2 1/2
Foursomes: G Shaw & S Lowry lost to C Wood & S Hutsby 1 hole; P Cutler & J Caldwell bt S Uzzell & D Whitnell 3 and 1 (1-1).
Singles: Shaw bt C Ford 2 and 1, Cutler bt Wood 1 hole, N Kearney bt M Haines 3 and 2, Caldwell halved with Hutsby; Lowry lost to Whitnell (3 1/2- 1 1/2).

Germany 4, France 3.

7th place play-off
SWEDEN 3, iTALY 2.

Netherlands 3, Austria 2 (Netherlands finish 9th).
