STIRLING STUDENT FROM YORKSHIRE
SETS HOT PACE IN SCOTTISH YOUTHS

Stirling University second-year golf scholarship student David Booth, who hails from Rotherham, set a challenging first-round target of five-under-par 67 in the Scottish youths open amateur stroke-play golf championship at The Roxburghe golf course, Kelso.
Booth is coached by Gordon Niven who was at one time the resident pro at The Roxburghe.
An eagle 3 at the 14th after birdies at the fourth, seventh, ninth and 11th in halves of 33 and 34 enabled Booth to demote clubhouse leaders James Ross (Royal Burgess) and Darren Wright (Rowlands Castle), both on 69.
Wright had not a bogey on his card. After birdieing the second, sixth and seventh, he reeled off 11 pars iin succession.
Ross, named earlier this week in the Scotland squad for the European boys’ team championship next month, had five birdies but bogeys at two short holes, the eighth and the 13th, dragged him down.
