Graeme Brown still in EuroPro

Tour hunt at Bovey Castle

Montrose man Graham Brown, now with an attachment to Dalmahoy, continues to make life difficult for himself in this week's Ivobank PGA EuroPro Tour event, the Bovey Castle championship, in Devon's Dartmoor country.

In the first round, former Scotland amateur cap Brown dropped almost a handful of shots over the closing holes, but still managed a 68. In the second round, he had bonanza of birdies - at the first, sixth, 10th, 13th and 17th. But on the debit side he had a double bogey 7 at the 12th and single shots dropped at the third, seventh and 16th.

He finished the day with a 70 for 138 to be still one shot off the pace with one round to go, although behind a new leader, Englishman Chris Hanson with 68 and for three-under-137 over the par-70 course.

Former Scottish boys match-play champion Paul Doherty is just inside the top 10 with a pair of 70s for 140 - one ahead of Andrew Oldcorn (71-70) and two clear of Lorne Kelly (69-73).

Callum Nicoll (75-143), Graham Gordon (73-144) and Jack Doherty (71-145) were the other Scots to beat the 36-hole cut.

Near-misses included Mark Kerr with a 76 for 148. He had a 9 at the 402yd par-4 15th. Elliot Saltman also failed with 76 and 73 for 149. He had five birdies on his card but two destructive double bogeys - 6s at the 10th and 15th.

Neil Matchell and Barry Hume, who both saddled themslves with first-round 70s, not surprisingly failed to beat the cut although they did improve with second rounds of 75 and 76 respectively.
