Sergio Garcia, the man who might have won the Open at Carnoustie last summer, found his long lost putting touch to take the lead after the first round at the Players Championship.
Spaniard Garcia, pictured right, has been extremely quiet since his play-off loss to Padraig Harrington at last year's Open, but you can't keep a good man down forever.
Taking advantage of idyllic morning conditions at the Sawgrass TPC, a course he says reminds him of Valderrama in his homeland, he gathered seven birdies in a six-under-par 66, heading Americans Kenny Perry and Paul Goydos by two strokes.

It was a day of two halves, with the morning starters enjoying great scoring conditions, while the afternoon half of the field had to cope with a stiff breeze.
Ian Poulter, who played early, was best of the British contingent on 69, while Lee Westwood shot a respectable 73 in the afternoon. But it was a disappointing day for the others, with Luke Donald on 75, Paul Casey 77, Brian Davis 77, Richard Johnson 77 and Justin Rose 78.

Irishman Padraig Harrington carded a 72.
Poulter, out in the first threesome of the day off the 10th tee, took good advantage of idyllic morning conditions. He made two straight bogeys soon after the turn, but could hardly complain about a score that gave him a share of the early clubhouse lead with Australian Steve Elkington and American Heath Slocum.
"I made a couple of bogeys, which was frustrating, but you're going to make a couple of mistakes around this course and the mistakes I made were just single bogeys, which is nice since I have been making double bogeys of late," said the 32-year-old from Buckinghamshire.
"I have been making an awful lot of bogeys lately. Last week I made 17 birdies and one eagle and shot two under par, which is insane."
World No 2 Phil Mickelson had a 70.
