TEAMS OF SIX REQUIRED FOR SENIORS'

INAUGURAL INTER-AREA TOURNAMENT

As you may be aware the SSGS was launched last season with four regional 36 hole stroke play championships, each counting, alongside the Scottish and British amateur seniors, for an order of merit administered by the Scottish Golf Union.
In 2008 a fifth stroke-play championship - in the South Region - will be added together with a match-play championship. Our events have been very well subscribed and we believe we have begun to satisfy a real desire for competitive "off the bare feet" golf amongst the over-50s.
As an extension we propose to stage an inter-area/county championship, the first of which is scheduled to take place at Cardross in September.
We have introduced the inter-county/area event in response to strong demand from the players themselves and think that there will be keen interest in being included.
Teams will consist of six players, four of of which must be players aged 55 or over on January 1, 2008, and the remainder 50 or over on the same date.
Five scores from six will count over 18 holes. Team members in the teams finishing first, second and third will each receive medals (gold, silver, bronze).
Entries do not close until June but it would be very helpful if the respective area could notify their intention to participate as soon as they can. If it is useful we can supply them with a list of our current members attached to clubs within their own county/area.
