FROM FIRST THREE EVENTS
ON US PGA TOUR ... and they even
pay him for missing the cut!
Martin Laird received $9,880 for "missing the cut" in the Buick Invitational on the US PGA Tour. The Scot fell foul of the new rule on the circuit this season which has been brought in to prevent more than 70 players going through to the weekend rounds.
Laird was officially placed joint 67th and listed "MDF" which is shorthand for missed the cut, did not finish. Players in this category receive a last-place payment.
The former Scottish youths champion from Glasgow, who stepped up from the US Nationwide Tour this season, has officially earned money in each of his three starts on the main tour this year and is lying in 97th place on the 2008 money table with $33,178 to his credit.
Kenneth Ferrie from the North-east of England finished joint 13th behind Tiger Woods in the "Buick" with scores of 73, 67, 71 and 74 to earn $91,866 - not bad for a player who came off the reserve list to play only at the last minute following a withdrawal.
Ferrie is joint 66th on the US Tour money table with $91,867 from two events.
Tiger Woods, by the way, earned $936,000 for winning the Buick Invitational for the fourth year in a row.
