KNOX EARNS A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS ON
HOOTERS TOUR WINTER SERIES
Rookie professional Russell Knox, from Inverness, based in Jacksonville, Florida, where he spent the past four years at university, finished joint fifth in the latest Hooters Tour Winter Series tournament at Timacuan Golf Club, Lake Mary in Florida.
Knox had rounds of 70, 70 and 68 for a five-under-par total of 208 over the 7,015yd, par-71 course. He earned $3,035 which was a lot more than he could have expected after running up a triple bogey 7 at the third hole of his first round. His recovery included an eagle and nine birdies as he finished four shots behind the winner of the $12,000 first prize, Florida-based Yong Joo with 68, 65 and 71 for nine-under-204.
Edinburgh exile David Kirkpatrick, who has lived at Lakeland, Florida for the past decade, finished tied 10th with 68, 70 and 73 for 211. He collected a pay cheque for $2,018.
Kirkpatrick might have won the tournament - he had two eagles and 11 birdies over the 54 holes but on the debit side he had one double bogey and 11 bogeys.
Scott Jamieson from Glasgow, the most successful Scot in Hooters Tour events in 2007, came joint 31st on 217 (72-72-73) to earn $927. Two double bogeys, one at the sixth in the second round and the other at the short fifth in the third, prevented him getting up his usual momentum.
The field of 132 also included Paul Cormack (Inchmarlo) who failed to survive the halfway cut with rounds of 71 and 77 for 148.
LEADING FINAL TOTALS
Par 213 (3 x 71)
204 Yong Joo (Florida) 68 65 71.
206 Hank Kim (Georgia) 68 72 66, Jeff Corr (Florida) 69 67 70.
Other scores:
208 Russell Knox (Scotland) 70 70 68 (jt 5th).
211 David Kirkpatrick (Scotland) 68 70 73 (jt 10th).
217 Scott Jamieson (Scotland) 72 72 73 (jt 31st).
MISSED CUT
