US PGA Tour event in Florida

MICHAEL SIM'S BAD START TO THIRD ROUND
DROPS HIM DOWN FROM FOURTH TO 24th

Aberdonian Michael Sim plummeted from joint fourth overnight to tied 24th after only five holes of the third round in this week's US PGA Tour event, the oddly-named Ginn Sur Mer Classic at the Tesoro Club, Port St Lucie, Florida.
Michael, who emigrated with his parents from Westhill when he was only seven to Perth, Western Australia, had rounds of 69 and 67 to be on eight-under-par and in contention on 136 at the start of the third day.
But he bogeyed the first hole, birdied the second and then had a double bogey at the fifth. That kind of scoring in the razor-sharp competition of the US Tour spells disaster with a capital "D."
Bob Estes led on 132 after two rounds with 64 and 68. He has birdie four and bogeyed two of his first nine holes in the third round.
Meanwhile, in the Nationwide Tour, Glasgow's Martin Laird is still on schedule to gain promotion to the US Tour next year. He has to finish in the top 20 money-winners after next week's Nationwide Tour championship. At the moment he is inside the safety mark.
In the current Nationwide Tour event, theMiccosukee Championship, Laird scored 68 and 70 to be joint 17th on 138 at the halfway stage. Mind you, he is 13 shots behind the leader.
