HUGH HUNTER'S CLACKMANNANSHIRE NEWS

INDIAN SUMMER FOR
COUNTY GOLFERS

Perhaps the recent weather improvement has had an effect on the Wee County elite golfers, because they have certainly turned in a number of good performances. Once again the best result came from Tulliallan’s Callum Macaulay (pictured right with district president Jim Thomson on right) when he took the South East District golf title at West Linton today.
After two rounds, Macaulay tied for the lead with Gavin Dear (Murrayshall) on a three under par score of 135. In the final two rounds, Callum kept a cool head and it was only the 2006 holder Glenn Campbell who forced a play off with a superb round of 64. Callum won the play-off and so added the South East title to the West of Scotland title which he won last year. Another great performance!
Final Results
1 C Macaulay 272 (66,69,70,67)
17= Scott Borrowman (Dollar) 71,77,75,67.

STEWART EQUAL 6TH AT BLAIRGOWRIE

Just before that, Bob Stewart (Tulliallan), playing in the final Seniors Order of Merit event, scored 77 over Blairgowrie Lansdowne to finish in sixth equal position, and also taking the second handicap prize with a net 75.

Best score of the day (70) came from Tony Stafford (Troon St Meddans) who is also an Alloa Golf Club member, and was a County Boy player a good number of years ago.
These performances have resulted in Tony finishing in 12th position (175 points), and Bob in 16th position (165 points) in the 2007 Seniors Order of Merit, and give them some encouragement for the future.

AMATEUR GOLF RANKINGS
Callum Macaulay's performances of course show up in the Amateur Golf Rankings for August. In the European rankings which cover the top 200 amateur European golfers, Callum is ranked 27th (4th Scot) and in the Royal and Ancient World Golf Rankings, Callum has moved up from 68th to 65th. Scott Borrowman is ranked at 675th, up from 682. With a few more events to count, more improvements should be possible
This weekend sees the Walker Cup being played over two days in Northern Ireland at Royal County Down Golf Club. The biennial match between America and Great Britain and Ireland attracts considerable interest from Amateur golfers – especially those who are keen to reach this top elite level of the game.
GARY HARVEY TROPHY.
While the top UK Amateurs are engaged in the Walker Cup, the Clackmannan county juniors are involved in one of their top fixtures for 2007 – the Gary Harvey Trophy at Braehead, which is contested by teams of eight junior golfers representing Clackmannan, Fife, Perth and Kinross, Angus.
The matches tee off on Saturday at 12.00 and on Sunday at 8.30, and the County Golf Union hope that there will be some support for the County Junior team.

County President Sam Kinnaird is upbeat about this year's team.

“Clackmannan County have an exceptionally good group of junior golfers this year. With handicaps between four and six, they should provide strong opposition to the visiting teams," he said.

The pool of nine boys selected are Andre Scotland, Grant Dowie (Alloa), John Macpherson, Scott Clark Andrew Borek (all Braehead), Lawrence Allan (Alva), Steven Macpherson, Tom Hogarth, Gary Chalmers (all Dollar).
