GREAT BRITAIN & IRELAND BOYS WIN JACQUES
LEGLISE TROPHY AFTER CONTINENT RALLY

FROM THE R&A WEBSITE

Great Britain & Ireland's seemingly easy path to victory in the final series of matches of the Jacques Leglise Trophy suddenly turned into a fierce battle to stay ahead as the Continent of Europe fought back strongly, taking five of the eight singles matches with one halved.
But they had trailed by five points overnight and by six after the morning foursomes. The gap was too wide and GB&I won by 13 1/2 - 10 1/2.
The boys' team event played at Notts Golf Club finally gave GB&I a deserved victory after three years of European dominance.I
In the opening match of the afternoon James Byrne was beaten 3 and 1 by Floris de Vries, but Andrew Johston steadied the home cause with a two hole margin over Edouard Dubois.
Further down the order the alarm bells were ringing as the European team were moving menacingly ahead.
GB&I team captain Jack Hiluta lost for the first time in the two-day event, a two-hole victim of Maximilian Kieffer.
Lower down the order Sean Einhaus was racing away from Tommy Fleetwood for a 6 and 5 win and Paul Cutler lost 4 and 3 to Nicolaj Aagaard. His fellow Dane, Daniel Lokke wrapped up the final match against Matt Haines by 5 and 4.
But when Scot Michael Stewart fought out a tough match with Matteo Manassero for a vital half, it was the result that ensured GB&I could not be overtaken. Eddie Pepperell was the last to finish and advanced the home score with a one hole victory over Pedro Figueiredo.
