European Challenge Tour event at Amsterdam

WHITEFORD SHOOTS 9-UNDER-PAR 63
IN AWFUL WEATHER TO GO NINE CLEAR

From Michael Gibbons,
Press Officer, European Challenge Tour Press Officer

Fifer Peter Whiteford, pictured right, produced the golfing performance of a lifetime, a stunning nine under par 63 in horrendous conditions, to devastate the field at the European Challenge Tour’s Dutch Futures tournament and establish an astonishing nine-shot on 14-under-par 202 lead going into Sunday's final round.
With constant, driving rain and wind battering the Golfclub Houtrak on the outskirts of Amsterdam, the 27-year-old from Kirkcaldy produced a staggering display of shot-making to reduce his opponents into what seems certain to be a chase for second place.
The fact that only two other players in the field broke 70 – second-placed Adam Gee fired a 68 and Italy’s Alessio Bruschi a 69 – says everything for the special nature of Whiteford’s third- round performance.
Whiteford's reward is a nine-stroke lead from Gee on five-under 211 and an 11-shot advantage over the five men sharing third place on 213 – a full 11 strokes behind Whiteford’s terrific total.
Currently 60th on the Challenge Tour Rankings, a €22,400 victory tomorrow afternoon will see the Scot leap into contention for a place among the all important top 20 spots that are rewarded with European Tour cards at the end of the season, with four events of the remaining.
