RUSSELL WEIR DROPS OUT OF GLENEAGLES
SCOTTISH PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

Cowal's Russell Weir has had to withdraw from the field for the £50,000 Gleneagles Scottish PGA championship over 72 holes, teeing off tomorrow.
Russell played 10 holes in practice over the PGA Centenary course on Tuesday before walking off. He had developed a swollen left leg and had blisters on his feet. He has made a medical appointment tonight but has, in any case, withdrawn from the championship.
The veteran Weir, who has not played regularly on the Tartan Tour for some time, is still the second biggest money winner in PGA Scottish Region history with a total of £269,151.
Only Colin Gillies, Scottish champion in 1995 and 1998, has won more - £428,035 at the start of this season.
Former Italian Open champion Dean Robertson, who shot a remarkable third-round 63 in this event last year, on his way to a 72-hole tie at 17-under-par 275 with Craig Lee, whom he beat at the second hole of a play-off, is expected to be one of the leading contenders once again for the £8,800 first prize.
"This is the start of a big month for me. After Gleneagles it's the Challenge Tour event at Cardrona followed by two Tartan Tour Order of Merit events and then the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles again," said Dean.
Paul McKechnie, Robert Arnott and Greig Hutcheon, the leading money-winners on the Tartan Tour this season, are three of the men Robertson has to beat.
