PETER LATIMER KOs LEADING
QUALIFIER IN ROYAL DORNOCH
CARNEGIE SHIELD

By ROBIN WILSON

Peter Latimer from Markinch in Fife, a freshman student at Guilford College, North Carolina enjoyed a comprehensive 6 and 5 victory over leading qualifier Ian Rennie (Royal Dornoch ) in round two of the Carnegie Shield at Royal Dornoch.
This set up an intriguing semi final against the 2005 winner, Andrew Bigadike. Biggadike it was, when the two met in a quarter final in 2005, who recommended Guilford College and his former coach Jack Jenson to Latimer when he was considering a scholarship in the States and in the Spring this year the Fifer won his first tournament on the the US College Tour.
Latimer is pictured on right.
Local holder Jimmy Gunn, with a one-hole lead over Greg Lynn (Bathgate), got into a dormy position and won on the 17th green to line up against Greg Bacon (Mellor & Townscliffe) from near Stockport. Bacon beat the No 2 seed John Miller (Gullane) after 16 holes in the quarter final.
