WARDROP SCORES FIRST PGA EUROPRO TOUR
VICTORY AT OULTON HALL MASTERS

Daniel Wardrop has won his first ever PGA EuroPro Tour event. Wardrop, 24, a member of the Didsbury Golf Club in Manchester, ended on 12-under in the De Vere Oulton Hall Masters in Leeds to scoop the £10,000 top prize.
He has played on the tour since 2002 and had never previously won a competition, with his closest effort being a second place finish at Swallow Farleigh Court, Surrey, in June 2005.
His recent form had been impressive after coming fifth at Bovey Castle, Devon and level sixth at Maylands, Essex, last week and he maintained that performance in Yorkshire.
Scores of 67 and 68 on the opening two days saw him comfortably make the cut as he started the final day in tied fifth, one shot behind four players.
But an eagle on the 527-yard par-five fourth moved him into the lead and three birdies from his last seven holes ensured he stayed there.
This victory moves Wardrop up to fifth in the PGA EuroPro Tour’s Order of Merit and guarantees him a place at the end-of-season Tour Championships in October.
There could also be a further incentive for Wardrop as if he is in the top five after that competition, then he will qualify for a 2008 Challenge Tour card.
Simon Robinson (The Wynyard Club, Billingham) finished in second on 11-under, with Andrew Willey (Ramsdale Park, Nottinghamshire), James Morrison (St George’s Hill, Weybridge) and Michael Searle (Woodbury Park, Devon) all on 10-under.
Three birdies in his first four holes helped Ireland’s Justin Kehoe, who played in the 2007 Open, claim his first tour top 15 finish of the year in level eighth.
Guy Woodman (Stoke Park), a winner in event five at Collingtree Park, Northampton at the end of May, could not repeat that triumph again in this tournament. A score of 68 on Thursday had gave him an opportunity of securing a top ten finish but his hopes were dashed with a third round of 72, despite an eagle on the 16th.
There was a large amount of local interest on the final day as two-time 2007 winner Graeme Clark (Doncaster) finished level sixth on eight-under, while Christopher Hanson (Crosland Heath) and James Mason (Rotherham GC) both finished on five-under.
Other local interest saw Joe Feather (Leeds Golf Centre) end on one-under, Michael Hempstock (Doncaster) finish on par with Haminder Matharu (Cookridge GC) a shot further back.
The next event of the season is at the Whittlebury Park Golf and Country Club in Northamptonshire from Wednesday, August 22 to Friday, August 24.
