FOUR SCOTS BATTLE THROUGH MERSEYSIDE
RAIN TO BEAT ENGLISH UNDER-16s' CUT
Four Scots battled through another miserable day of rain at Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club, Merseyside to survive the halfway cut in the English Under-16 boys' open stroke-play championship for the McGregor Trophy.
A total of 48 lads with 36-hole tallies of 154 or better go through to Friday's final two rounds and they include Andrew McLachlan (Eastwood), joint eighth on 148 with rounds of 75 and 73; David Law (Hazlehead), jt 29th on 152 with a 74 and 78, and two Scots right on the limit mark of 154 - Tom Blennerhasset (Dalmahoy) with 81 and 73, and Christopher Robb (Inchmarlo) with 74 and 80.
Scots who did not make it were Paul McPhee (King James) with 79 and 80 for 159; William Russell (The Duke's) 83 and 77 for 160, Daniel Young (Craigie Hill) on 161 with 81 and 80, Ian Redford (King James VI) with 85 and 77 for 162, Colin Baird (Bothwell Castle) on 164 with 84 and 80, and Jack Scott (Deeside) with 86 and 81 for 167.
Adam Carson from Bristol leads the field by three strokes after a pair of 70s for four-under-par 140.
Spain 1, with a total of 293 had a two-stroke win from England 1 in the Nations Cup, a team event staged over the first two rounds of the individual tournament. Scotland's No 2 team (Tom Blennerhassett, Daniel Young and Andrew McLachan) came fifth on 302.
