NINE Scots among qualifiers for match-play

A total of 67 players with 36-hole aggregates of 141 or better qualified for the match-play stages of the British men's amateur championship at Royal Lytham.
Nine Scots made it through - Callum Macaulay (pictured right), Gordon Yates, Lloyd Saltman, Mark Kerr, Kevin McAlpine, Ross Kellett, Gavin Dear, Wallace Booth and Scott Mann.

Top Scottish qualifier was Callum Macaulay from Tulliallan and a recent graduate in history and English after a four-year golf scholarship at the University of Mississipi. Macaulay had an aggregate of 10-under-par 222.
Macaulay is not planning to turn proessional for another couple of years. He has managed to get a part-time job at a golf shop in Stirling and this will give him some income to finance his plans to play the major amateur golf circuit.
