STEWART, KNOX END US COLLEGE CAREERS ON A HIGH NOTE

Highlanders Duncan Stewart from Grantown on Spey and Russell Knox from Inverness have ended their United States collegiate golf careers on a high note.
They were both selected for the all-Atlantic Sun Conference golf team for the second year in a row. The team never plays any matches but is selected by the golf coaches of all the colleges that play in the conference and is an indication of the recognised best players.
Stewart (pictured far right) and Knox (right) spent four years on golf scholarships at Jacksonville University, Florida. They finished their American careers as Nos 1 and 2 on the university team’s all-time scoring average table.
Stewart won eight tournaments on the US college circuit, including the Atlantic Sun Conference individual champion in 2005 and again in 2006.
Knox won three tournaments.
The Scots helped the Jacksonville University team – the Dolphins – to win four team titles during the 2006-20076 college season. That was the most in the university’s golf programme history.
“These two student-athletes raised the bar for the Jacksonville University program and, I am sure, they will be successful in their future endeavours,” said Jacksonville University head golf coach Jim Taketa.
