Lloyd Saltman's fantastic run of form continued at Royal Lytham & St Annes today when he led a star-studded field at the end of the first round of the prestigious Lytham Trophy.

The Craigielaw player, already winner of two 72-hole events in the past three or four weeks - the Scottish champion of champions at Leven and the Craigmillar Park Open in Edinburgh, set the pace with a terrific round of six-under-par 65, and nine under the CSS of 74.

Lloyd leads by two shots from the brilliant young player from Belfast, Rory McIlroy, the European individual champion.

Two more Scots, former national champion Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie) and Jonathan King (Glasgow)., were among the pack in fourth place on 69.
Richie Ramsay, the US amateur champion, is back in a share of 12th place after a satisfactorily solid start of one-under-par 71.
