JACK'S THE LAD FOR SCOTS IN IRELAND
South Wales-based Jack Doherty was the best of the Scots in the first round of the PGA EuroPro Tour event at Faithlegg House Hotel & Golf Club, near Waterford in Ireland.
Dohcerty shot a two-under-par 70 to be in joint 19th place behind Welshman leader Mark Laskey who had a 66.
Aberdonian Graham Gordon and Elliot Saltman from Dalkeith were bracketed in 44th position with par-matching 72s. Both players had five birdies but lots of bogeys as well.
Jack Doherty's younger brother Paul, a former Scottish boys' match-play champion, and Graeme Brown from Montrose are joint 58th on 73.Brown had double bogeys at the sixth and 18th while Dohwerety had a triple bogey 7 at the 12 in an inward half of 41.
Anglo-Scot Alasdair Hay (Royal Winchester) was in joint 98th position with a 76.
