INCHMARLO YOUNG PROFESSIONAL BARNARD
EQUALS WISHAW RECORD OF 62

Inchmarlo Golf Centre, Banchory young professional Mark Barnard spreadeagled the field in the qualifying round for the Wishaw Golf Club 36-hole pro-am today (Monday).
Mark equalled the professional course record of 62 with halves of 30 (five under par) and 32 (two under) which included an albatross 2 at the par-5, 480yd fourth hole.
“Mark used a driver and then holed his second shot with a rescue club, which would be the equivalent of a four-wood,” said Scottish PGA tournament director Michael MacDougall.
Barnard’s bogey-free round, which earned him £100, also included birdie 3s at the second, ninth, 13th and 15th.
Next best among the 29 qualifiers for the two-round pro-am at the same venue on June 2 and 3 was Eddie Thomson (Largs) with a 65.
The cut-off point for the qualifiers was 71. There were 10 players on that mark and a card countback was used to eliminate only one. The unlucky man was Campbell Elliott (Haggs Castle).
