NICOLL’S FOUR-BIRDIE BURST ON WAY
TO HEADING TORRANCE QUALIFIERS

Prestwick’s Callum Nicoll strung four birdies together from the fifth to the eighth on the Torrance Course today (Wed) on his way to winning the qualifying round for the Scottish Wateraid 54-hole Order of Merit pro-am at Fairmont St Andrews from May 8 to 10.
Nicoll, who picked up a £100 prize, returned a three-under-par 69 which was good scoring on a dry but quite blustery day. Apart from his birdie burst in reaching the turn in four-under-par 32, Callum deviated from par only once in the remaining 14 holes. That was a bogey at the 15th in an inward 37.
A total of 28 players in a field of 95 with scores of 76 qualified for next month’s tournament. There were nine players on 76 and only three got through on a card play-off. Lee Vannet (Carnoustie Links) was one of them.
