SEVEN BIRDIES FOR A 67 IN
HOOTERS' TOUR EVENT
Rookie tour pro Scott Jamieson from Glasgow was in joint second place at the end of the opening round of the NGA Hooters' Tour event, the Savannah Lakes Resort Classic at Monticello Golf Club, South Carolina tonight.
Jamieson, well used to American golf courses and playing conditions are four years at Augusta State University, was one off the pace with a five-under-par 67, set by Craig Hicks from Florida, in the early completed rounds. Four players in all were on 67.
Scott, last year's Scottish Golf Union Order of Merit winner and a +4 handicap player when he turned pro in November, had birdies at the first, third, fifth, minth, 13th, 14th and 17th with bogeys at only the seventh and 10th in halves of 33 and 34.
David Kirkpatrick, who played for Scotland in the early 1990s but a resident of Lakeland, Florida for a number of years, was lying joint 19th with a two-under-par 70.
Gareth Maybin from Ballyclare, Northern Ireland matched the par of 72 to be sharing 40th place in a field of 168.
Colin Spiers from Dunkeld had a 77 to be well down the field. He needs something special second time round to make the top 60 players and ties who will progress to the final two rounds at the weekend.
