PAUL DOHERTY KEEPS IT UP WHILE
BIG BROTHER JACK STRUGGLES
South Wales-based Paul Doherty maintained his recent good form to be the leading Scot at the end of the first round of the PGA EuroPro Tour’s Peugeot International open at Whittlebury Park Golf Club near Towcester in Northumberland today.
The former Scottish boys’ match-play champion shot a five-under-par 66 to be two shots behind the pacemaker, Warren Bennett (pictured right).
Graeme Brown from Montrose , Jamie McLeary and Euan Little were joint 10th on 67, Little highlighting his halves of 35 and 32 with an eagle 3 at the 11th.
Brown had halves of 33 and 34 while McLeary had 32-35.
Carnoustie's Eric Ramsay is in joint 46th place – only the top 50 and ties after the second round beat the cut – after a 70 while Graham Gordon and Paul Doherty's "big brother" Jack need a big improvement if they are going to make it through to the final round.
They are bracketed in 65th place with par 71s. Aberdonian Gordon was going well when he turned in 33 but a double bogey at the 10th knocked him sideways.
