MACLEOD WINS TAIN GOLF WEEK OPENER
Local club champion, James Macleod won his club's opening event of the Tain Golf Week, the 36 hole Abdul Ghani Cup on Saturday, with a one-under-par total of 139, made up of a 70 and a 69.
The +1 handicapper's first-round 70 was rescued with a three-under- par inward half of 32 while his second round, a 69, came from one bogey at the 10th and two birdies, the 13th and 16th.
Macleod enjoyed a five-shot victory from the same plyer he beat in the championship final, Munro Ferries, who shot 71 and 73.
Murcar Linkss' Jimmy Russell, a Tain exile, was placed third with 71 and 74.
Kevin Hamilton (Didsbury) , who on Monday begins his defence of the four-day event title, finished fifth on 147.

GOLSPIE CLASSIC WON BY JIMMY GUNN
Royal Dornoch and Sutherland county champion, Jimmy Gunn tees off 7.17am on Monday morning in the Scottish amateur Championship at Nairn, fewer than 24 hours after winning the Golspie Classic on the course where he learned his golf.
Over the Golspie links where he has also reigned as club champion, Gunn shot 67 and 71 to win by five shots from former winner Darren Hexley (Inverness).
Darren turned up for the first round without his clubs and with a borrowed set shot 73.
