Renfrewshire boys lose to Ayrshire so
West League title race is wide open

Renfrewshire Boys Golf Team lost to the team from Ayrshire Golf Association at Caldwell Golf Club on Sunday 11th August by 5 matches to 3.

This now leaves the West League wide open as there are now no unbeaten teams left playing. A win to-day for Renfrewshire would have all but have confirmed their title win, but it now all comes down to the last series of games.

The course was in good condition and held up well despite the very poor overhead conditions. The fact that the course was closed the previous day says a lot for the playing surfaces at Caldwell as despite soggy underfoot conditions, the course and the greens in particular held out well against the constant rain.

The Renfrewshire team again showed a few changes due to various events also taking place on the day.

Drew Cleaver continued his unbeaten form and won by 3 and 2.

Alexander Farmer making a welcome return after his earlier injury, secured a halved match, having been dormie two

The next few games proved pivotal to the result as through 12 holes most RGU boys were ahead but a mixture of poor play by the RGU and good play by Ayrshire saw them win the next four games, three of which went to the last green/

Cameron Percy unbeaten this season, and on his home course was always in control and won comfortably 4 and 3.

In the final game, local club Champion, Roddy McAuley was one up with three holes  to play but a poor putt after a great bunker shot on 16 cost him the hole and his match finished all square.

The match, as always, was again played in a very sporting manner in some very poor weather conditions.
