ITALIAN GIRL'S IMPRESSIVE TITLE DOUBLE

Italy's Charlotte Cattaneo completed an impressive double with victory at the English Girls' Under 16 Open amateur stroke-play championship at Gerrards Cross Golf Club in Buckinghamshire.

The 15-year-old from Milan birdied the last to claim the English Under 14 title two years ago at Blackmoor and now she has produced another outstanding performance to win in her first year at Under 16 level as well.
The only other players to have achieved that particular double are Florentyna Parker, Henrietta Brockway (now Zuel), Kelly Tidy, former British Women’s Open champion Georgia Hall and most recently Lily May Humphreys in 2015 and 2016.

Cattaneo started the final day with a one-shot lead after opening rounds of 70 and 74 and went on to card a 70 and a 73 to complete a five-shot victory over Spain’s Mar Garcia Jimenez on one under par 287. Garcia completed her tournament with a 72 and a 73.
Rachel Gourley from Arcot Hall Golf Club in Northumberland matched Cattaneo’s closing 73 to claim third place on six-over par 294 one shot ahead of Austria’s Anna Neumayer while Germany’s Milla Sagel made a big move up the leaderboard with a final round of 68 to finish tied for fifth place with Cattaneo’s friend and compatriot Lucrezia Rossettin on 296.
“It’s fantastic to win and even better because I also won two years ago,” said Cattaneo, who has won age group titles at Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 level at home in Italy.
“I’m only 15 and young enough to play again next year so I will do everything I can to be back.
“The course was fantastic,” she added. “Every hole is different. It’s very challenging but the greens were great.”
Spain’s Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio (pictured below) claimed a runaway eight-shot victory in the English Girls’ Under 14 Open Amateur Championship also played at Gerrards Cross.
