Scots finish third as England KO Ireland's

bid for fifth title in a row

An England team that had scrambled a narrow 8-7 victory over Scotland 24 hours earlier, finished up as Men's Home International champions at Conway Golf Club, North Wales today.
England, with an 8.5-6.5 victory, ended Ireland's bid to win the title for a fifth year in a row.
Scotland filled their usual position .. third, by winning the "wooden spoon" match against bottom dogs Wales 8-7.
England and Ireland shared the morning foursomes 2.5-2.5 but then England won six of the nine afternoon singles.
Scotland forged 4-1 ahead of Wales at the end of the foursomes but the Welsh fought back well to take the singles 6-4.
