Robert Stewart wins North Alliance opener with a 72 at Grantown on Spey

 

The winning score of two-over-par 72 was achieved by later starter Robert Stewart (Torvean) at the opening fixture of the North Scottish Golfers' Alliance season at Grantown on Spey on Saturday. He headed a field of 77 competitors by a shot from early starters Kevin Thomson and Graham Murray, both from Moray Golf Club

Those who played early  had to contend with blustery conditions. The later starters had the wind easing in the back nine

Stewart birdied the first, sixth and 15th but bogeyed the third, seventh, eighth, 14th and 16th.

Thomson and Murray both had three birdies, Thomson at the sixth, 13th and 15th, Murray at the ninth, 13th and 17th

Thomson bogeyed the second, seventh, eighth, 11th, 12th and 14th.

Murray had a double bogey at the 12th and also dropped single shots to par at the second, fifth and 18th.

David Joel (Inverness), who finished joint third on 75 with Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey), had the best finish of the day - a birdie at the 17th and and eagle 2 at the 18th.
