Renfrewshire set to retain Scottish women's county title
Renfrewshire are odds-on favourites to retain the Scottish women's county championship at Kilmacolm after beating Dumfries-shire 6.5-2.5 today (Saturday)l while their main rivals, Aberdeenshire, leading by 2pt after the foursomes, nosedived in the singles and lost 5.5-3.5 to Midlothian.
To win the title Aberdeenshire would need to win their final match on Sunday, against Renfrewshire, by a big-enough margin to cancel out the title-holder's commanding "goal difference" of 12-6 compared with Aberdeen's 9.5-8.5
Aberdeenshire's collapse in the singles - which they lost 5-1 - started with a shock 6 and 5 defeat for Curtis Cup player Shannon McWilliam from Aboyne at the hands of Karen Ferguson-Snedden who was three up after 10 holes.
