It was a busy weekend for the Renfrewshire Golf Union. The Men’s A team and the Youths' team were playing, and, in addition, the County Cup Final and the Club Champion of Champions' Semi-Final and Final were taking place.

Played at Eastwood Golf Club on a day when the weather returned to normal Scottish conditions of wind and rain, the final of the Club Champion of Champions took place with Alistair Kyle (East Renfrewshire) facing Alan Kelly (Cochrane Castle).
Alistair should have won the ninth but, with three putts there, he was three up at the turn.
The lead was reduced to two holes when Alan made birdie at 10 and the next two holes were halved in par. The long 13th and 14th proved pivotal where Alistair’s distance off the tee was crucial.
He won 13 with a birdie and 14 with a great up and down from the greenside bunker after a poor drive with Alan short in 2 and not making par. Alistair closed the game out on 15 with a tee shot to 6 feet and with Alan just through the green and not able to pitch in, he conceded the hole and the match.
In the semi-finals Kyle beat Andrew Cunningham (Ranfurly Castle) at the 20th after a great tussle between two of the young guns, and Kelly beat Paul Alexander (Caldwell) 4 and 3 with some very steady golf against the county stroke-play champion.
Meanwhile, at The Old Course Ranfurly, the Men's A team faced Dunbartonshire in the first league match of the season and ran out comfortable winners by 7 matches to 1.
However the Youth team did not fare as well against the same opponents away at Balmore and lost by 6.5 to 1.5.
The County Cup final was played at Renfrew Golf Club where Greenock Whinhill beat Elderslie 3-1 to win the trophy for only the second time, the last victory being in 1994.
