Haggs Castle club champion, junior champion
David Shaw, club champion, and Louis Fleming, junior club champion 2018, at Haggs Castle Golf Club, Glasgow. These 36 hole finals had originally started on Sunday, August 26 but, after the first 18 holes, the adverse weather caused flooding on some of the greens ,
The decision was taken to postpone the completion of the finals until today (Sunday, September 16).
David Shaw had commenced the second 18 holes one up on Craig Morrison, a three-time winner of the championship. David won the 19th hole but Craig immediately birdied the second and also won the third to get back to square.
The match remained tight thereafter with never more than 1 hole in it. Craig won the 13th to again get back to square and the following four holes were halved in pars. All to play for down the par 5 18th hole where David hit two excellent shots to be on the green in 2.
Craig had blocked his tee shot and hit a tree in his attempt to make the green with his second shot. In the end Craig conceded the hole and David is Haggs Castle's new champion for 2018.
David first reached the championship Final in 1987 while still a Junior but this is his first win of the Haggs Castle club championship.
Louis Fleming, the defending junior club champion, played Thomas Rankine, jun. in the Junior Championship Final. After the first 18 holes Louis had established a commanding lead and went on to win comfortable. He will attempt to win the Junior Championship for the third time in 2019.
