Alford's Fraser Laird won the Paul Lawrie North-east Under-14 boys' stroke-play championship with a scratch score of four-over-par 75 at Kemnay Golf Club today.
Playing off nine of a handicap, 13-year-old Fraser also had the best net score of 66, which means a cut in his handicap is on the cards.
Laird won the scratch trophy by a single stroke from Jamie Gibb (Aboyne) and Ethan Main (Murcar Links). Gibb was placed second with a better last six holes' score (25 to Main's 26).
Laird could not win both the leading scratch and handicap awards. The latter went to Dylan Boyce (Murcar Links) with a net score of 69 off 22. He had a better inward half than seven-handicapper Ethan Main who also returned a net 69.
The Under-12s' handicap prize was won by Koby Buchan (Cruden Bay) with a net 73 off 13.
The Under-18s match-play, contested by the four lowest scorers in the stroke-play championship yesterday, resulted in a win for Owen Walker (Newmachar) who beat Ryan Lovie (Duff House Royal) 6 and 5 in the final.
Under-18s' stroke-play title winner Liam Waldron lost by 4 and 2 to Lovie in the semi-finals.
