Jamie Sinnamon is presented with the winner's trophy by Derek McGlynn, President of the Renfrewshire Golf Union
Jamie Sinnamon wins Renfrewshire boys' champion of champions title

RENFREWSHIRE GOLF UNION PRESS RELEASE
Played at Paisley Golf Club and once again generously sponsored by Greenlaw Garage,  Paisley,  www.greenlawgarge.com on a day when for once the gods shone on the RGU, the weather was superb and with a course in great condition the prospect of good golf was always on the cards.
In the Final Jamie Sinnamon (Greenock Whinhill) beat Jack Currie (Greenock) by 4 and 2.
The game started in a fairly scrappy manner with Jack going out of bounds at the first while Jamie had a solid par to go 1 up. Jack won the second with par when Jamie seriously overshot the green. Jack then went 1 up with a superb birdie at the third.
The fourth was halved but the fifth was conceded after a wild drive by Jack. The sixth was halved in par and Jack went 1 up with a great approach shot birdie at the seventh while Jamie missed the green. The eighth was halved in par and the ninth was halved in bogeys after both hit poor drives to the right and had to play back to the fairway.
Jack Currie was 1 up at the turn.
The second nine was in complete contrast to the first nine with Jamie hitting a great second to ten for a tap in birdie to square the game. After halves in par at eleven, Jamie made birdie at the par 5 twelfth to go 1 up.
At the short thirteenth both missed the green and the hole was halved. With Jack failing to get up and down at the fourteenth Jamie won it with par to go 2 up and with the same thing happening at the next hole this meant   Jamie was 3 up with 3 to play. He closed out the game at the par 5 sixteenth with his third birdie in seven holes to win the match by 4 and 2.
A match played in the best of spirits between 2 friends.
In the semi-finals, Jamie Sinnamon beat Alan Donnelly (Caldwell) at the 19th while Jack Currie beat Euan English (Erskine) by 2 holes.
On the previous Sunday 16th Alan Donnelly beat Ibrahim Hussain (Eastwood) at the 19th, Jamie Sinnamon beat Jack Crawford (Williamwood) by 1 hole and Euan English beat Kenan Ingram (Port Glasgow) 2 and 1.
Jack Currie received a walk over when his opponent failed to make his tee-time.
In the preliminary rounds Alan Donnelly beat Cameron Lyle (Paisley) 3 and 1, Jack Crawford beat Ben Campbell (Elderslie) 2 and 1 and Timmy Erskine (Kilmacolm) beat Naill Gallagher (Gourock) 3 and 2.

Connor Syme slips to final-round 79 but

wins Battle Trophy by five strokes

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Drumoig's Connor Syme made all the running to win the Battle Trophy with a three-under-par total of 285 over Crail Golfing Society's Craighead Links in Fife.

Syme was heading for a very low aggregate after rounds of 68, 68 and 70 but a strong wind blew him slightly off course with a final round of seven-over-par 79 which included eight bogeys and only one birdie, at the 15th.
The former Australian open amateur champion was the only competitor to have a sub-par final total.
“It was a real grind this afternoon,” said Syme. “It was 40mph winds, it was tough and everyone struggled. The pins were in tough positions so it was difficult to get it close and easy to drop shots.
“I was six over after 11 and knew I had a few tough holes coming, so I went and had a talk with myself and refocused. It was one of those days, but I’m pleased to get the job done having come close in this event the last two years.
“I’m delighted to win as it sets me up for the next few weeks, going to the Lytham Trophy and to Ireland, in what is a Walker Cup year.”
The 21-year-old, coached by his father Stuart at Drumoig Golf Centre (which he owns), finished five ahead of Steven Stewart from Clydebank and  District on two over, with Old Ranfurly teenager Jamie Stewart a stroke further back.
Banchory's improving Sam Locke shared fourth place with Craig Ross on 292.

Stewart  stepped in to fill second place on 290 when first Callum Bruce (Duff House Royal) fell by the wayside with closing rounds of 78 and 82 for 298, followed by Calum Fyfe (Cawder) crashing to a last-round 84 for 296 after three very steady rounds of 71, 71 and 70.
Stewart had rounds of 72, 70, 73 and 75.

Turkish Airlines Challenge report and totals

Grant Forrest finishes T5 behind winner Ryan Evans

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Ryan Evans sealed a maiden European Challenge Tour victory as he prevailed in an epic tussle with Tapio Pulkkanen to win the Turkish Airlines Challenge by four shots at Gloria Golf Club.
The 30-year-old Englishman was paired with the Finn for the second day running, and with windy conditions in Belek preventing anyone further down the field from challenging, the tournament became a one-on-one battle over the last 18 holes.
Evans, who moves to second place in the Road to Oman Rankings with this win, never relinquished his overnight lead, pulling four shots clear with nine holes to play before nerves, and conditions, added to the back nine drama.
A crucial moment looked to have come on the par five 16th when Evans three-putted from inside 20 feet and Pulkkanen made birdie to move within one shot, but Evans thrillingly bounced back on the 17th with a birdie that made his walk down the last – which he duly birdied too – slightly more relaxed.
“I tried not to think of the situation and just play golf,” said the 30 year old. “My dad texted me last night saying, ‘play the course, not the man,’ and that’s what you have to do, try to forget what Tapio was doing and play the course as well as you can – I’m so pleased to go round under par today.
“We were both quite a bit ahead of everyone else and the back nine isn’t easy in this wind but unless we had a disaster, one of us was going to win it.
“I just had to keep myself ahead of him but try not to make it a match play – it was more, if he puts it in the middle of the green, I’ll put it in the middle of the green, play sensibly."
Evans’ closing one under par round of 71 was one of only five under par scores in the fourth round and took him to 21 par overall, with Pulkkanen runner-up on 17 under par and Frenchman Julien Guerrier two shots further back in third spot.
Ireland’s Ruaidhri McGee took fourth place on

13 under par

Former Scottish amateur champion Grant

Forrest tied for fifth place on 276 - nine behind

the winner.

Battle Trophy Round 3 summary

Clark tames the Crail wind for a 69

By DAVID ROY
Crail GS manager
As predicted, the wind has strengthened, which is reflected in the third-round scores.  However, the round of the morning came from the experienced Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm) who birdied the first two holes on his way to a one-under front nine before he zig-zagged home with three birdies, an eagle and two bogeys to finish the round with an imposing 69 to commence the final round on one under 215 for the tournament.

Joining him on the same score is Marc Watt (Inverallochy), whose bogey-free back nine yielded two birdies to close with a 71.

Calum Fyfe (Cawder) has shown impressive consistency, dropping only two shots on his way to a 70 to leave him alone in second place on 212, replacing Callum Bruce (Duff  House Royal), whose back nine of 40 was his undoing.

Retaining an ice-cool composure in the face of a blustery wind that is gusting to 20 mph, Connor Syme (Drumoig) remains the man to beat. Four birdies in his round of 70 more than compensated for his two dropped shots to increase his lead by two and take the local man to 10 under for the tournament, six ahead of the field
The wind is not due to drop at all and the final round may yet prove to throw up some surprises

Wiesberger tops Fleetwood in play-off

at Shenzhen International

GettyImages-671792546

Bernd Wiesberger beat Tommy Fleetwood in a play-off to win the Shenzhen International - his fourth European Tour title - on a dramatic final day at Genzon Golf Club, China.

Making his 200th appearance on the European Tour, the Austrian entered the final round with a three-shot lead and eight shots ahead of Fleetwood but the Englishman fired a stunning 63 to set the clubhouse target and share top spot at 16 under.

Wiesberger made excellent par saves on the 12th and 17th and nearly hit the pin with his approach to the last but was forced to settle for a par and a trip back up the 18th with Fleetwood for a play-off.

He went on to put his approach to five feet and roll in the putt for a birdie and victory on debut at the tournament.

The 31 year old has not missed a cut since the 2016 US
PGA Championship, producing seven top five finishes in that time, and his first victory in a play-off after losing the previous three times.

England's Ross Fisher (68) held a share of the lead stood on the 18th tee but a three-putt bogey saw him fall out of the play-off into a share of third at 15 under par alongside France’s Grégory Bourdy, a shot clear of South African Dylan Frittelli, American David Lipsky and Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti.

STATEMENT REGARDING DAVID HOWELL

At the conclusion of the final round of the Shenzhen International, England’s David Howell approached officials with concerns relating to his preferred lie on hole 15 during the second round.

He was unsure if he had taken a preferred lie using the correct score card length or the incorrect club-length and therefore insisted on accepting the appropriate penalty.

He incurred a two strokes penalty for playing from a wrong place under rule 20-7 and an additional two strokes penalty under rule 6-6d for an incorrectly returned score card.

The four strokes penalty to the second round would have seen Howell missing the cut, therefore he will receive no prize money.

Victory at the ¥150 million (approximately US$1.37million) event was the first for the 45-year-old in five years and also provided him with much relief as he was facing the prospect of losing his winner’s exemption status on the Japan Golf Tour Organisation (JGTO) this year.
Kuboya produced a final day heroics when he signed for a seven-under-par 64 to force a play-off with Miyamoto who compiled a four-day total of 11-under-par 273 at the Chiba Country Club.
Kuboya then gained the early advantage when Miyamoto hit his tee shot out of bounds at the first play-off hole.
After finding further trouble with his second tee shot which landed behind the tree and with Kuboya reaching the green in three, Miyamoto would concede defeat to Kuboya who could even afford to three-putt for a bogey to win.
Philippines’ Juvic Pagunsan had a closing eagle-three on 18 to thank for lifting him to tied-sixth place, which was also his second top-10 finish in Japan in two weeks.
Thailand’s Prayad Marksaeng’s final-day charge did not materialise as he signed off with a 72 that left him in a share of ninth place that also included Bangladeshi Siddikur Rahman.

Hannah McCook makes it two Scots in top 10

 By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Aboyne teenager Shannon McWilliam finished second in the Helen Holm Scottish women's open amateur stroke play championship at Troon today.
She was five strokes behind the winner, Sweden's Linn Grant, a 17-year-old grand daughter of James Grant from Inverness who was a club pro in Sweden. Linn is one of the youngest, if not THE youngest players to win the "Helen Holm."
With the first two rounds at Troon Portland and the final 18 holes today over Royal Troon's Open championship links course, Grant shot rounds of 71, 66 and 72 for seven under par 209.
McWilliam, 17, who finished third in this tournament as a 15-year-old, had scores of 69, 70 and 75 for 214. The first two were the only players to finish the 54 holes under par.
Shannon had double bogey 6s at the seventh and 15th in her final-round halves of 38 and 37. She did birdie the fourth and 13th.
Grant's birdies at the second, fourth, sixth, 10th and 12th saw her forge clear of McWilliam who had started the final day two strokes behind her playing partner.
The Swede bogeyed the first and had double bogeys at the short eighth (the Postage Stamp) and the short 14th in halves of 36.
Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) made it two Scots in the top 10 by sharing ninth place on two-over 218 with rounds of 72, 71 and 75.
McCook birdied the fourth, 11th and 12th in halves of 38 and 37. She ran up a triple bogey 6 at the short 10th and also dropped shots at the second, sixth, seventh and 14th but, overall, it was Hannah's best performance for some time in a tournament of the calibre of the "Helen Holm."
Five players tied for third place on 216, two behind Shannon McWilliam. Third prize was decided on the final round over Royal Troon and went to Hollie Muse (West Lancashire) who had a 71.

Winner Linn has her eyes on Junior Solheim

Cup team place

SCOTTISH GOLF NEWS RELEASE
By ED HODGE

Sweden’s Linn Grant ignited her Junior Solheim Cup hopes by easing to a five-shot success in the Helen Holm Women’s Scottish Open, as Shannon William continued her form to claim second.
Grant, 17, whose grandfather, James was a Swedish-based club pro from Inverness, stood firm over the final 18 holes at Royal Troon to post a closing level par 72 and claim her biggest win in the game.
No stranger to Scottish soil having competed in last year’s  Ladies British Open Amateur Championship, Grant enjoyed the ‘fun’ test in Ayrshire to post a seven-under-par total over the 54 holes. Her weekend’s work was highlighted by a superb 66 over Troon Portland on Saturday.
Aboyne’s McWilliam continued her form to finish runner-up on two under par, building on her share for second spot with England’s Hollie Muse at last week’s Scottish Girls’ Open at Montrose.
McWilliam closed with a 75, finishing two strokes clear of five players tied for third place on level par, again the in-form Muse from West Lancashire, Irish pair Annabel Wilson and Chloe Ryan, Swede Amanda Linner and first-round leader from Germany, Alexandra Forsterling.
Grant picked up valuable Junior Solheim Cup points, as she seeks to qualify for the 2017 event at Des Moines Golf and Country Club in Iwoa.
“I’m very pleased, absolutely,” said the 17-year-old Helsingborg teenager, who plays out of Rya GC. “I would say this is my biggest win in the game now, building on my win in a junior event in Doral over the winter. I just tried to play my game and not get too excited, stay relaxed and do my thing.
“I’d played in Scotland before, played the British Amateur before. I like it kind of windy, it’s fun. Playing in the Junior Solheim Cup this year is my goal for sure, to compete in the event in America.”
McWilliam added: “I’m happy, but annoyed, in a way. I had two double bogeys at the 7th and the 15th and it was hard to get that back. It’s maybe one that got away, but Linn had two doubles as well so it’s just golf for you.”
The next best home player was Hannah McCook, pictured, from Grantown on Spey in a tie for ninth on two over 218 with rounds of 71, 72 and 75.
One of the most hotly anticipated events each year in GB and I, the "Helen Holm" is the most prestigious women’s competition on the domestic calendar. Scottish Golf received a record 158 entries for the event in its current form, with the ballot one of the lowest ever at 0.5.
